AC Joint Osteolysis

This is a condition commonly seen is strength and power athletes like weight lifters and rugby players.

AC Joint Osteolysis is caused by excessive activities which load the outer part of the collarbone. It usually occurs in people younger than 40.

The diagnosis is made by clinical examination and confirmed with X-rays.

Treatment is usually conservative:Rest, anti-inflammatories, AC joint injections and physiotherapy.

If this fails, a Mumford procedure can be done.
